Let me tell you about
my project, Borderline!

Borderline is a fantasy/semi urban fantasy oc project I've been working on for a long time now! Below you'll see some information about the world and hints as to whats to come! Some parts will be vague, since this could be turned into something bigger and I'd rather not spoil everything :)

I'll also be adding info as time goes on! so check for updates once in a while.

(also this story is more character driven than world/plot driven)

Warning:

This series is PG-13 ! Also, while these topics aren't really mentioned much on the website, this series will tackle topics such as mental health, mentions of abuse, existentialism, derealization, and light gore (blood/injuries). Just something to keep in mind :)

Story
Synopsis

Borderline_Forever_Stickers_Kate__Ophelia.png

In Denver, Colorado, Kate is a college student trying to figure out her path in life. One day, she gets a call from her friend, Jayde, and is invited to help out with organizing his materials for a project in his professor's classroom.

While there, the two find a hidden door that lead to a big machine attached with all sorts of wires and metal. One thing led to another, and the machine gets activated and rips a hole in space and time. Kate gets transported away, leaving Jayde behind.

As Kate wakes up,  she finds herself in a mysterious cyber city, and nearly gets captured by some guards. After escaping them, Kate quickly realizes that she's trapped in this otherworldly realm. Getting back home won't be easy. As time ticks away, she must navigate this strange new world, facing dangerous enemies, befriending people, and traveling through treacherous terrain. With each passing day, time only ticks faster as she feels herself fading, caught between two dimensions and unsure if she'll ever make it back to her own world. On top of that, she's also on the run from the government of that universe, scared that Kate will finally reveal their dark secrets to the public.

Basic World Information

The place that Kate ends up in is called the Moonbright Empire.

Located near the coast, the architecture of the city is a mix of retro futurism and the regular cybercity look, with some solar punk flair into the mix. (if you don't know what any of that means here's a pinterest board I made so you can get the vibe)

The center of the empire is where the ruler lives,  Queen Zeph and her son, Jamie. She rules the empire with an iron fist and it's a dystopia when Kate arrives there. The empire is protected by this huge dome, which makes it real hard to travel in and out.

The city itself is seperated into certain sections, the areas near the center is more rich and lively, while the areas further away may not be as well kept, especially near the outskirts.

The entire city is technically walkable, but it's easier to get to certain places via dragon rides or train/metro. Floating vehicles are also a viable option.

When it comes to technology, they're much more advanced than the normal world when it comes to transportation and architecture, but when it comes to communication devices, they use a wristband that shows a hologram of a screen, and thats their version of a phone/tablet. It doesn't have the things we have when it comes to entertainment, it's only for calling and texting.

TLDR: advanced in transportation and architecture, not so much anywhere else.

Magic is used alot here, it's powered by the moon. Depending on the phase of the moon is in, the magic fluctuates in the kingdom. If its a full moon, that means the magic is at its most peak. If it's a new moon, magic is useless. In the past there have been instances of people trying to figure out how to use magic all the time without having to rely on the moon so much, but it never gets that far and is shut down. Nobody truly knows why the magic functions this way. In the world there are reasons made by the people to try to explain why it is that way, but in the end it's merely a guess.
